Bidwell Park & Chico Creeks Cleanup

Pre-Register Now!

33rd Annual Bidwell Park & Chico Creeks Cleanup

Held Saturday Sept. 26th & Sunday Sept. 27th

..Yes, we are expanding our cleanup to 2 days!

Each year, Butte Environmental Council teams up with the City of Chico, Butte County and the Great Sierra River Cleanup to organize over 500 community volunteers to remove TONS of trash, recyclables, and hazardous waste from our creeks and beloved Bidwell Park. This legacy BEC event, in its 33rd year, provides the opportunity for our community to work together towards a common goal; protecting our shared natural spaces and waterways. Without regular removal of man-made waste and debris, the water quality of local creeks, channels and streams would be greatly impacted. Local flora and fauna depend on riparian habitats for survival and lack of care for these corridors negatively affect their ability to thrive.

We have a problem: The United States creates 3 times the global average of waste regardless of representing only 4% of the global population. This 2019 Greenpeace Report states, "Retailers are massive contributors to plastic pollution and will play a pivotal role in either exacerbating or solving the global plastic pollution crisis. Retailers are gatekeepers of which products appear on shelves or online, and can determine which national brand products to buy. This is a critical element in reducing waste further up the supply chain, especially among consumer goods companies."

Coming together in large numbers to participate in this level of community service increases the personal connection and relationship to our natural spaces it takes to make the change we want to see happen.
Curious about how much waste BEC has actually removed in 32 years?

Pre-register now until August 10th to make sure you get a t-shirt this year.

Our 2020 t-shirts will be designed by Katharine Shermine and printed by our sponsors at The Printed Image.

Please read the following information before registering below. In order to ensure safety measures are followed at this BEC event, we strongly encourage you to register as a group. Those who register as a group will be delivered cleanup materials in the weeks preceding the weekend of the event on Sept. 26th & 27th. This will allow us to alleviate the grouping of hundreds of volunteers on Saturday and Sunday morning.

A group includes (3) or more people in categories like churches, groups of friends, families, business staff teams, sports teams, fraternities and sororities.

We know how dedicated you are to a healthy watershed and a healthy community. Today, consider becoming a “Friend of the Cleanup”. Your financial support will make it possible for BEC to engage hundreds of volunteers to help pull several tons of garbage and recyclables out of Chico’s creeks and Bidwell Park. In addition to covering the expenses of this annual event, your contribution will also allow us to continue bringing the community together to protect the land, air, and water of Butte County.  Please contribute today through the form below. It is one way to show your love for our watershed, as well as cleaner, healthier parks and creeks. We cannot do this work without you!
