To serve on a BEC committee, you must be a BEC member, employee, intern, or board member. Guests are welcome to visit or present at a committee upon request.
BEC closely monitors policies and plans within Butte County to ensure that environmental concerns are always addressed in policy discussions--or opens new discussions by bringing environmental concerns to light. The Advocacy Committee meetings are an opportunity to report on new or ongoing local issues, to bring other advocates up to speed on our progress, discuss strategy, or share networks. View a list of our Current Advocacy Priorities.
The Advocacy Committee meets monthly, usually on the first Wednesday of each month from 5:30-7:30pm in the BEC Conference room. To confirm the next scheduled meeting, check the BEC calendar or call the BEC office.
Do you thrill at the thought of helping to plan and create exciting events? Are you a "people person"? Do your friends all "ooh" and "ah" over your ability to accomplish goals on a timeline, and keep your calendar straight? Most importantly: Do you want to help with a critical aspect of BEC's function so that we can continue to protect our home? Well, you might just find our Events Committee a good fit for you. We put on many events throughout the year, the largest of which are our Endangered Species Faire (always the first weekend of May, unless it's not) and our Bidwell Park and Chico Creeks Clean-up in mid-September. In addition to the biggies, we host our Anniversary Gala in mid- to late Fall, and other events which are in the planning stage at this time. (Oh, the mystery!) We need your skills and talents to help make our events shine!
The Events Committee meets monthly or more often if needed. Meetings typically take place the 2nd Tuesday of each month from 5:30-7:30. See the BEC calendar for the next scheduled meeting time.
Interested in getting involved in our community garden? We're looking for a few good folks to step up in some leadership roles and keep this garden moving from dream to reality. You don't need to have a plot in the garden to be on the Committee; anyone is welcome to come help set a course for the garden and oversee garden activities. We welcome your involvement!
The Garden Committee meets monthly, usually on the first Tuesday of each month from 5:30-7:30pm. See the BEC calendar for the next scheduled meeting time.
The focus of the BEC Executive Committee is to oversee organizational issues including finances, personnel, legal, and other administrative matters. The Executive Committee includes the Board President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, and the Executive Director. This committee meets monthly, usually one week prior to the Board meeting.
