The Barry R. Kirshner Wildlife Foundation is a non-profit organization founded in 1994. It is conveniently located just minutes south of Chico in Durham; it is the only organization of its kind in California, north of Sacramento. The mission of the foundation is to educate the public about the care and preservation of all wildlife and their habitats, both local and global. The Foundation is home to a remarkable variety of non-releasable, endangered and exotic live animals. Each animal is housed in an enclosure which far exceeds State and Federal regulations. Animal residents include a mountain lion, black African Leopard, a spotted Asiatic Leopard, a Bengal tiger, a Sumatran/Indochinese tigress, a white Siberian tiger and tigress, an African lion and lioness, a serval, an ocelot, an assortment of exotic birds, and a giant Burmese python. Located behind Durham Park, on Laura Lane. Visits by appointment only.

Environmental Advocates (EA) is comprised of interns who share a concern for environmental quality and a willingness to work toward safeguarding the environment. Environmental Advocates interns work on individual and group projects in areas such as land use/growth control, recycling, endangered species protection, water/air quality, and toxic waste issues. Environmental Advocates researches and monitors local, state, and global environmental issues. The Environmental Advocates program strives to promote environmental quality through education and advocacy. EA interns are actively involved in planning meeting, governmental review boards, administrative hearings, and litigation.
