Butte Environmental Council and the City of Chico are pleased to announce the return of the Block Parties with a Purpose, a community cleanup program focusing on Chico's Urban Waterways: Little Chico Creek, Big Chico Creek, and Lindo Channel.
April 14th, 2018 9 am- 12 pm
Meet at Bidwell Avenue and Nord Avenue (next to Thai Express)
How this project works:
Over the years, our urban creeks have become choked with invasive plant species, and filled with increasing amounts of garbage. Invasive plant species out compete with beneficial native plants and provide fuel for fires, while excessive garbage pollutes the water and leaves neighborhoods looking neglected.
Tackling this problem is intimidating for everyone: neighbors, the city, businesses, and advocacy and environmental groups. But with combined efforts, and the right direction, urban waterways will once again be the beautiful, relaxing waypoints and healthy wildlife habitat corridors they once were.
The program started in the Fall of 2014 as a partnership between Butte Environmental Council, California Native Plant Society (CNPS) and City of Chico. The program now continues with funding from the City of Chico’s Community Grant program and is bolstered by additional generous sponsors. These amazing contributions help empower and support those who care most to take action - the people living adjacent to urban streams.
