BEC Fellow Accomplishments

Over the past three years, a total of twelve Climate Action Corps Fellows have served 11-month terms at BEC, contributing 17,640 hours, of service and recruiting thousands of volunteers for climate action. This program, through its three pillars of service: urban greening, organic waste diversion and edible food recovery, and wildfire resiliency, has helped local communities throughout the state of California both mitigate and adapt to climate change.

Fellows support and lead projects, as well as enlist volunteers, in actions that prevent greenhouse gases from entering the atmosphere or make our communities more resilient to the effects of climate change when they do occur.

BEC Fellows have positively impacted our community by:

  • Recruiting 2,479 volunteers in direct climate action and land stewardship activities.

  • Educating 7,342 youth in Butte County through our Recycling and Rubbish Education Program, Trees PLEASE, and Eggs in the Classroom youth programs.

  • Diverting 28,685 lbs. of organic food waste from entering our landfill and turning it into nutrient rich compost and putting it back into our soils.

  • Planting 482 shade trees across Butte County, Tehama County and Glenn County, increasing the urban canopy, shade and habitat for wildlife in urban areas.

  • Assisting with removing 200,472 lbs. of trash and harmful materials out of our ecosystems, enhancing our sensitive habitats, recycling materials that negatively impact our communities and assisting in habitat restoration.

BEC Fellows have consistently contributed to our local community in profound and meaningful ways, driven by a shared commitment to climate action. Many of our Fellows are proud AmeriCorps alumni who continue to serve the greater good in impactful roles throughout the region.

The AmeriCorps program plays a vital role in cultivating a dedicated workforce ready to drive positive change. As funding for this essential program faces uncertainty, we urge you to take action. Please consider signing the petition, contacting your local lawmakers, and calling your members of Congress to help protect and preserve AmeriCorps.
