The Advocacy Committee
BEC closely monitors policies and plans within Butte County to ensure that environmental concerns are always addressed in policy discussions–or opens new discussions by bringing environmental concerns to light. The Advocacy Committee brings together the BEC board, staff, allies, and activists working on various aspects of local/regional environmental advocacy to bring other advocates up to speed on our progress and strategize together. Advocacy Committee meetings are an opportunity to learn how YOU can be a voice for the environment!
The Outreach & Education Committee
The BEC Outreach Committee assists with our Community Forums initiative and helps ensure our voice for the environment travels far and wide. In the 2019 strategic planning retreat, the Board of Directors set a strategic goal to involve BEC Members, Angels, and our greater community in a series of forums focusing on climate change. Some examples are the BEC Listening Session to help guide the process of the Climate Action Plan update by the City of Chico Sustainability Task Force and the Housing and Climate Change Forum led by a panel of regional and local experts on the intersectionality of housing, development, and climate change.
The Garden Committee
Do you love gardening? Are you passionate about growing healthy local food right in our own backyards and public spaces? This committee oversees the ongoing maintenance and health of our Oak Way Community Garden program. The Garden Committee helps organize and plan events like Community Garden Workdays and Compost Workshops.
The Executive Committee (Exclusive to Board Members)
The Executive Committee works closely with the Board of Directors and organizational leadership to help ensure BEC policies, procedures, and operations are carried out ethically and effectively. Membership on this committee is limited to individuals serving in a standing Board of Directors position and requires approval by a majority vote of the Board.
